A book on December 19-26, 2000 operation in Turkish prisons…

hapishanelerde katliam / massacre in prisons:

During the week of December 19-26, 2000, 10,000 Turkish soldiers violently occupied 48 prisons to end two months of hunger strikes and ?death fasts? by hundreds of political prisoners. The hunger strikers were protesting the state?s plan to transfer its prisoners from large wards to US-style ?F-type? cells holding one to three occupants. Operation ?Return to Life? ? which left at least 31 prisoners and two soldiers dead ? lasted a few hours in most prisons, and up to three days at one prison. Eight prisoners were reportedly ?disappeared,? and at least 426 prisoners have been wounded. 1,005 prisoners have been transferred to F-type cells.

The armed operation ostensibly aimed to ?rescue? members of  illegal, radical left organizations from ?forced? starvation at the hands of their leaders. But the official number of prisoners conducting death fasts has reportedly increased to 353 since the operation, up from 282. Unofficial reports say that up to 2,000 prisoners are starving themselves, with the active support of 10,000 others. Human rights groups suspect security forces of burning prisoners with firebombs during the operation. According to the Human Rights Foundation of Turkey, some bodies were buried without being identified, and other deceased prisoners? families and lawyers were not admitted to the autopsies.

Shame on AKP members in the Istanbul city council…

Sincerity on Ergenekon case can only be proved through AKP’s approach to Hrant Dink case and so far it sucks…

ORHAN KEMAL CENGİZ – ?Hrant Dink Street? Shame on the Justice and Development Party members!

by ORHAN KEMAL CENGİZ
the following day I read news coverage about an interesting ?attempt? by the opposition party?s local politicians. You may have heard about it, during the last meeting to commemorate the anniversary of the murder of Armenian-Turkish journalist Hrant Dink, some demonstrators changed the name of a street to Hrant Dink Street. It was quite a nice gesture by the demonstrators, who covered a street sign with the word ?Ergenekon? written on it with a sign with ?Hrant Dink? written on it. It was probably this act which inspired some members of the İstanbul Municipal Assembly to propose changing the name of Ergenekon Street to Hrant Dink Street. The proposal was put forward by members of the Republican People?s Party (CHP), which, at the national level and in Parliament, is the most fervent supporter of the status quo and antidemocratic structures. The proposal was put forward by Özgen Nama, who is a member of the İstanbul Municipal Assembly. He is from the CHP. Mr. Nama?s proposal was supported by 112 other members of the assembly who are also from the CHP. But the majority of the members of the assembly are from the Justice and Development Party (AKP). They voted against the proposal and the proposal has been rejected. I do not know if any delegate from the AKP voted in favor of the proposal, but it is understood that the majority voted ?No.?

For those of you who are not too familiar with what is going on in Turkey, this event may not seem very significant, and you may not understand the gravity of the situation.

Solve the Dink assassination, solve the Ergenekon….

last updated: 21 Jan

It has been three years and not much progress in the Hrant Dink Assassination case. I believe if judiciary and authorities will push forward to solve the Dink case, Ergenekon trial will also progress. Evidence is just there and accomplices are alive  but unfortunately “authorities” are hesitant to solve the case… Today, we, as friends of Hrant Dink, attended the commemoration at the place where he was murdered. It was sharply cold and snowy and many people I know just did not attend because of that. Thanks God, I am in peace with my consciousness, I stood by Him today and I will continue follow his case…

Israel helps Ayrılık to increase its ratings?

The photo below has to be included here. From the Turkey-Armenia game. As far as I understood it was an operation by Young Civilians.

In the crisis between Israel and Turkey it should be noted Israel reacted too much to a serial that was not popular at all. I haven’t heard anybody discussing Ayrılık episodes. And as far as I know the serial was not in the top 100 ratings list. Now I hear producers are happy that people will be curious and watch the serial. There had to be a stronger reaction to Valley of the Wolves movie who had a substantive anti-semitic emphasis in some parts. Ayrılık hadonce made it to popular discourse through what Zeynep Tokuş , an actress and former beauty pageant winner was wearing:

Human chain for Ceylan, this evening in Taksim
