We got used to the fact that the publicity is usually more important than the content of many pieces of the pop-culture industry; but this week, I saw some further example to this gap between the publicity of the piece and piece itself.

Did we experience or represent freedom on the Labor Day?
Last week, the world has celebrated the Labor Day. People danced, shouted and walked on the streets and especially in Turkey, everything seemed to be like in Rio Carnival with explicitly entertaining scenes in stark contrast to suffering Greece which witnessed a violent Labor Day.

The doyen of Turkish cartoonists, Turhan Selçuk dies in Istanbul early this morning March 11, 2010 at 01.30 h at Acibadem Maslak Hospital where he had two operations since he was hospitalized on March 7. He was one of the three founders of the Association of Cartoonists in Turkey in 1969.……..

TV serial industry is booming in Turkey. Now these are exported to Middle Eastern countries and some other countries (about exports coverage). Level of sexuality or political debates (“Hatirla sevgili”, Çemberimde gül oya) within the plots are making authorities uncomfortable. Not that I condone every TV serial but I observe this an exciting media emergence.
