seven points of wisdom (re the palestine situation)

By Galip

fact one: israel will not back off from its offensive before george "dubya" bush is out of the white house, bar an almost impossible capitulation from hamas.
fact two: hamas is virtually dead.
true, it is pictured as a victimized hero of the philistines under israeli fire but it already fell far short of hezbollah of lebanon in representing and protecting the interests of its cohorts and backers. unlike hezbollah, hamas only won the elections because the fatah clique was unbearably incompetent and corrupt and simply unbearable. however, little changed for the better in gaza since, except hamas got more despotic.

"Thousands protest Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip in Turkey

We stopped by the demonstration that took place in Beyazıt square to take pictures. I intended to take more photos but I lost interest quickly when I heard boring, long and cliché lslamist slogans and ranting and stepped into a coffehouse nearby and ended up playing cards. At least the one in Beyazıt turned out to be an Islamist show and lost common ground with non-Islamists. In fact, it was so disorganized that every Islamist group had its own agenda and I was hearing different slogans simultaneously. If things changed after me, I don’t know, but i don’t think so.. In addition to massive amount of Palestine flags, I saw Hezbollah and Chechen flags, too. There were so many high school kids, most of them were female ones probably from Islamic high schools…

'bi xêr hati

‘bi xêr hati | Welcome

By Mavi Boncuk

Prime minister R. T. Erdogan’s welcoming remarks for the TRT 24 hour Kurdish language TV channel 6 "TRT 6 hayırlı olsun" in Kurdish made the headlines of Turkish dailies with a variety of transliterations. Almost all of them wrong. The funniest came from Aydin Dogan’s Hurriyet and Milliyet by completely reversing the message and not welcoming it by using the word Bê’ in the wrong order. They all should have said “TRT Şeş li ser xêrê be” and to this Mavi Boncuk says ‘bi xêr hati | Hosgeldiniz | Welcome"
Headlines from Turkish dailies:

[There might be a Freudian slip- Milliyet and Hürriyet’s real intention is probably not to welcome it…]

[updated] Official Kurdish TV channels starts test broadcasting…

New TV channel uses Kurdish usage of some words in which W or X letters are used. Turkey discussing

For a week now, Turkey has been the scene of debates regarding three texts.
These are: the "Apology to Armenians" campaign, "Being Different in Turkey: Alienation on the Axis of Religion and Conservatism," a joint study by the Open Society Institute (OSI) and Boğaziçi University, and the Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV) report, "A Roadmap for the Solution of the Kurdish Question: Policy Suggestions to the Government from the Region."
