Explosion in Taksim Square. 32 wounded…

Intentional or not, earlier explosion saved lives. Taksim Square is always a crowded place in most of the hours of the day. Sunday early morning hours were probably the least crowded time. Most of Turkish media quickly blamed PKK and a group inside that organization may really be responsible but we do not know yet. There are some groups within PKK who may not be happy with the possible extension of ceasefire. And there might be others. We do not know yet… We will continue to go to Taksim and enjoy our lives…

On Sunday morning a suicide bomber targeted a riot police unit in Taksim Square, the heart of İstanbul and a heavily populated tourist destination, wounding more than 20 police officers and civilians. In cases like this, the usual suspect is the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). But the PKK denied involvement in the Taksim attack a few hours after the explosion.

22 people were injured in a bomb attack on a riot police team in Takism in the centre of Istanbul on Sunday (31 October). Two policemen are said to be in serious condition. The blast was apparently caused by a suicide bomber.

A bomb exploded today at 10:30 am beside the buses of police waiting at Taksim Square in preparation for providing security for Republic Day parades that had been rescheduled due to rain. There were 22 injured, 10 of them police, and 1 death (reported in Radikal). Police believe it was a suicide bomber. (click here and here).
