Appeasement does not work…
ECHR head criticised for visiting Turkey, meeting Erdoğan | Ahval

The İHD has penned an open letter to ECtHR President Spano: “In order for your visit to Turkey to genuinely be beneficial, your lending an ear to civil society organizations that make the voices of rights victims be heard bears vital significance.”

In his speech at the Justice Academy, ECtHR President Spano said, “Those in power cannot control the courts. To put it clearly, laws must not only apply to the populace, but also, and crucially to those that hold the reins of power at any given moment.”
The unfortunate visit to Turkey of the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Judge Spano, continued with a terrible speech delivered. The suggestion of training of the judges is NOT the cure for the country's lack of due process and independent judiciary. https://t.co/sVjty7Nx7p

Committee of Ministers of Council of Europe notes that though Kavala has been arrested as part of another investigation, the rights violations detected by the ECtHR are still in place and, therefore, the ruling of release must be implemented.
