CHP and the Rest

Two photos that were shared by the Turkish presidency’s X account this week, after a reception for the opening of the new legislative year, drew attention. There appears to be a reconfiguration or re-engineering in Turkish politics, as the CHP, the leading party in recent opinion polls, remains the legitimate main opposition, while the rest of the parties are aligning themselves with the ruling elite.

The photographer took a good shot showing how the DEM deputies are in awe of Erdoğan.

In the photo, President Erdogan is seen surrounded by leaders of all opposition parties except the CHP, alongside the ruling coalition partners, during the parliament reception, 1 October, 2025. (AA Photo)
