Stopped by Ankara, for EU Delegation Human Rights Film Festival

I was a jury member…

Cameras Roll for Human Rights;

And Now, It Is Time for The Awards!

The award ceremony of the 9th EU Human Rights Short Film Competition, organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey, will be held in the evening of 9 December in Ankara.

With an all-time-record participation this year, 79 amateur and professional directors who said, “I have a word to say, an idea to share about Human Rights” participated in the competition.

In the scope of the 2019 event, the Delegation organised workshops on “how to shoot a short film”. During these workshops, 560 students in various cities expressed their wish to have their views heard on inequalities and their expectations on human rights, all in the context of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on the Rights of the Child, and the 85th anniversary of the recognition of the political representation of Turkish women. The Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey, Ambassador Christian Berger, said on the occasion:

“This year for the ninth time in a row, we organise the EU Human Rights Short Film Days in order to gather together all amateur and professional film aficionados with a keen interest in the field. Just like in previous editions, this year too, we will be screening films on diverse issues such as the rights of people with disabilities, rights of women and children, protection of human dignity, everyone’s right to live in a clean and healthy world and many more. We hope the audience will join us to watch, think and discuss these issues together in Ankara, Istanbul and Antalya “.

Now over to the jury…

One day before the award ceremony, jury members director Ezel Akay, producer Elif Dağdeviren, actress Tülin Özen, Associate Professor Erkan Saka and Nagihan Çakar Bikiç, PhD, will meet and select the winners among the 10 shortlisted films.
