Erdoğan’s visit to the alleged troll den

While we were “brotripping,” (more about this in a later post), I have missed posting here. One of the interesting issues was that Erdoğan and his head of communications, Fahrettin Altun paid a visit to “Bosphorus Global.” This NGO is alleged to be the headquarters of so-called Pelikan Gang that was effective in forcing former PM Davutoğlu to resign. The NGO reported the visit through its Twitter account:

This was predominantly interpreted as a show of force and Erdoğan’s decision to continue to back this group. Some AKP users had argued that Erdoğan was deceived by this group and he would eventually act against them. This was a blow to their thinking. Some of the opposition always argued that this gang- which is heavily financed by the president’s in-law relatives- could not operate without Erdoğan’s approval. I tend to agree with this last point. However, in any case, I could not take this visit as a show of force. It is better to wait and see for a while. Erdoğan is known to cut ties with his allies in every turn of his political career. This visit may actually the beginning of an end. Erdoğan, a master political tactician, is probably aware that this group actually annoyed many people inside the AKP ranks and he may be getting a closer look now…

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan could turn once again to a clique of media figures to deal…
