The Turkish province accommodating the highest number of Syrian refugees in the country is Istanbul with 20 percent, according to media monitoring company Ajans Press.

 

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has described the construction of Canal Istanbul, an artificial sea-level waterway that will connect the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara, as a “strategic project.”
