Erdoğan seems to have taken a softer stand on the Armenian Genocide issue. As Turkey’s impact on Washington seems to be at a low point, another aggressive statement by Erdoğan would lead to a permanent loss. After all domestic policies he leads, he is definitely not sincere but just a sinister tactician.
What surprises audiences is that Erdoğan made a -one-time turn, I assume- to his former years, and provides a human discourse. Besides, the arguments in his statements are similar ones Turkish State officially pursued for a long time. Since we are so used to his conspiracy filled bashing regularly, this surprises us.
However, when this humane discourse dissected, one can easily see that the aim is to ignore the calamity of what happened to Anatolian Armenians, particularly. Other ethnicities also suffered, but what happened to Armenians was not a mere suffering and nothing equal happened to Turks, for instance. Secondly, opening archives is the best Turkish State could come up with, as it is well expected that documentation is very limited at that period due to several reasons. Oriental cunning.
