Freedom of expression is the most important value and institution in a liberal democracy. It is a basic public good. It is for this reason that it must be carefully protected. However, as with other freedoms, there is major confusion about this one.
We have a serious problem with violence on TV serials. Recently, Mr. Bülent Arınç, deputy prime minister, made a statement on this topic and expressed his frustration, saying, ?Unfortunately, they continue to be broadcasted.? He was referring to the infamous TV series ?Valley of the Wolves,? which is full of extreme violence and is also one of the most popular TV series in Turkey.
The parliamentary report on the disappearance of children revealed family pressure, unemployment, poverty, violence or lack of education as some of the main reasons for children to leave home. Most of these children are female and aged 15 or older.
