For me, militarism is not only related to the army and demanding that it has power, but includes applying militaristic values, such as all kinds of violence, paying attention to militaristic values such as wearing uniforms, paying utmost importance to a hierarchy, and trying to act like a small and unimportant part of a huge and powerful machine. In short, militarism to me is the opposite of individualism.

In my column dated May 23, 2009, I had briefly mentioned the Ergenekon organization?s heightened level of interest in missionaries and this organization?s members? activities where missionaries are concerned. In this piece I had stated the following:
The president judges of the “Sledgehammer” Coup Plan trial and of the Hrant Dink murder trial were reassigned. The decision of the Supreme Court of Judges and Prosecutors came just 2 days before the first hearing of the “Sledgehammer” trial.
Police officer Tuncay Aktaş is on trial because of beating journalist Ozan Özhan. He is charged with “actual bodily harm”. The trial is being continued on 15 December at the Beyoğlu 2nd Magistrate Criminal Court.
The indictment on the Support for Modern Life Association and the Contemporary Education Foundation revealed the organizations’ connections to terrorist organizations. Both associations were searched in the scope of the “Ergenekon” investigation.
