Turks reading, Grup Yorum, Ali Nesin

It is a bit of old news now. In last weeks, a Turkish NGO in cooperation with a local municipality tried to break a world record: Biggest number of people reading together. People gathered in a stadium to do it. They could not break the record. The act itself is a little bit silly and I assume conservative sections of Turkish public attempt to create new sphere of action like this. Still it is better than nothing. It was a nice try:)

I had missed a wonderful concert by Grup Yorum:

İnönü Stadyumu?nda 55.000 Kişilik Koro Yorum?a Eşlik Etti

55,000 attended to this most successful political band of Turkey. It was its 25th year celebration..

When I had stopped listening to metal for various reasons, Grup Yorum albums compensated the loss to some extent. Not because of musical genre but because of radical content:)

Ali Nesin'in Matematik Köyü

Ali Nesin is a fantastic mathematician who happens to chair Maths department at Bilgi U. He has also a “maths village project” in which he takes a group of students to a village camp teaching Maths there. He is one of the few ones to popularize maths in Turkey. It seems that this moderate and humble scholar is rejected by TÜBİTAK for funding this year due to his support for evolutionary theory. This is at least the claim by some.
