Découragés par l?absence d?avancée concrète dans les négociations de réunification de l?île, les Chypriotes turcs ont, sans surprise, voté en faveur de Dervis Eroglu lors de l?élection présidentielle, qui se tenait hier dans le nord de Chypre. Dans la soirée, le dépouillement de 84 % des bulletins donnait l?actuel premier ministre, un nationaliste, en tête, avec 50,3 % des voix, devant Mehmet Ali Talat, le président sortant et ardent défenseur de la réunification, qui remporterait 43,18 % des suffrages. Un second tour, le week-end prochain, ne sera donc pas nécessaire. Le résultat de cette élection est crucial, car il peut faire dérailler le laborieux processus de paix et menacer les négociations d?adhésion de la Turquie à l?Union européenne.
