This is Munich’s unique surfing spot right in the heart of the city. The Eisbach Wave in the English Garden is a popular location for river surfing, making Munich one of the few cities in the world where you can catch waves in an urban setting. This man-made wave on the Eisbach River attracts surfers year-round, offering a thrilling experience for both locals and visitors alike.
The Eisbach Wave
Location: The Eisbach Wave is situated in the English Garden (Englischer Garten), one of the world’s largest urban public parks. Unique Feature: It’s a standing wave created by pumping water over concrete blocks, providing a continuous surfing experience. Popularity: The spot has gained international recognition and has become a must-visit attraction for surf enthusiasts traveling to Munich. Skill Level: Due to the wave’s power and the surrounding concrete walls, it’s generally recommended for experienced surfers only.
Since the holiday season continues (until 7 January), we are exploring the city slowly and relaxed. Yesterday, we walked around the neighborhood and, with a little bit of public transportation, visited the English Gardens, The Eisbach, and the Bavarian Museum. The funny thing is that markets are closed on Sundays, and not that today is an official holiday, we are a bit short on food, etc. Don’t worry; we will survive. I also learned that Munich’s tap water is one of Europe’s best.
