Amnesty International accused Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. On December 5, 2024, the human rights organization released a comprehensive 296-page report titled “‘You Feel Like You Are Subhuman’: Israel’s Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza”[1][2][3].
The report concludes that Israel’s actions in Gaza since October 7, 2023, meet the legal threshold for genocide under international law. Amnesty International’s investigation found that Israel has committed at least three of the five acts prohibited by the UN Genocide Convention[1][3]:
- Mass killings of Palestinian civilians
- Inflicting severe bodily or mental harm
- Deliberately creating living conditions calculated to bring about the physical destruction of Palestinians in Gaza
Agnès Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International, stated that Israel has treated Palestinians in Gaza as “a subhuman group unworthy of human rights and dignity, demonstrating its intent to physically destroy them”[2][4].
The report is based on extensive research conducted over nine months, including interviews with 212 people, analysis of visual and digital evidence, and examination of statements by Israeli officials[2][5]. Amnesty International has called on the international community, particularly countries supplying arms to Israel, to take immediate action to end what they describe as ongoing atrocities in Gaza[4][5].
Israel has consistently rejected allegations of genocide and is challenging such claims at the International Court of Justice[6].
