Israel’s UNRWA ban… A list of its violation of international treaties

After Israel’s UNRWA ban  I have asked Perplexity to list all the allegations of international treaty and law violations it initiated in recent years:

  1. Fourth Geneva Convention: Israel has been accused of violating multiple provisions of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which governs the protection of civilians in times of war and occupation. Specific alleged violations include:
  • Transferring parts of its civilian population into occupied territory (settlements in the West Bank)[3][7]
  • Collective punishment of Palestinians in Gaza through blockades and restrictions[4][7]
  • Forcible transfer and deportation of protected persons[3]

  1. UN Charter: Israel has been accused of violating principles in the UN Charter, including:
  • Prohibition on the acquisition of territory by force[3]
  • Respect for the right of self-determination of peoples[3][5]
  1. International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: Alleged violations include restrictions on freedom of movement in the occupied territories[4].
  2. Convention on the Rights of the Child: The UN has accused Israel of “massive” violations of this treaty in its military operations in Gaza[1].

  3. International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination: Israel’s policies towards Palestinians have been characterized as potentially violating this convention[4][7].

  4. Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court: While Israel is not a party, it has been accused of committing acts that could constitute war crimes under the Rome Statute, including:

  • Indiscriminate attacks on civilians[4][7]
  • Use of white phosphorus in densely populated areas[7]
  • Destruction of civilian infrastructure[4]
  1. UN Security Council Resolutions: Israel has been accused of violating numerous UNSC resolutions related to its occupation and settlement activities[3].

  2. International Court of Justice Rulings: Israel has not complied with the ICJ’s 2004 advisory opinion declaring the separation barrier in the West Bank illegal[6].

It’s important to note that these are allegations and accusations. Israel disputes many of these claims and argues that its actions are justified under international law for security reasons. The legal status of many of these issues remains contested.
