In Barcelona for the #EASA2024 conference

The official site is slightly clunky, but you can get it all there.

My session is tomorrow.

I have asked the chatGPT to categorize the conference topics:

Top Topics at the EASA 2024 Conference

  1. Doing and Undoing Mobility: Several panels address the dynamics of mobility, immobility, and migration, often from an anthropological lens.
  2. Anthropology of Economy: Panels focus on economic behaviors, neoliberal labor markets, and financial crises.
  3. Medical Anthropology: Multiple sessions explore health, pandemics, and the role of medical anthropology in global health.
  4. Environmental Anthropology: Sessions cover topics such as climate change, environmental degradation, and human-animal relationships.
  5. Digital and Media Anthropology: Panels discuss the impact of digitalization, algorithms, and media on society.
  6. Political Anthropology: Several panels address political processes, public policies, and organizational structures.
  7. Gender and Sexuality: There are numerous sessions on the anthropology of gender, sexuality, and related organizational processes.
  8. Food Anthropology: Sessions explore the cultural, social, and economic aspects of food.
  9. Visual Anthropology: Panels on the use of visual methods in anthropology and the impact of visual culture.

After Sinem and I waited more than two hours in passport control, I lost my appetite for the city for the first day and decided to stay around the hotel. Only on the third day did we have a mini Gaudi tour before I went back to the conference. My first impression is that the city is a more comfortable, laid-back version of Istanbul in terms of urban life. Some parts are so crowded that I can understand why city dwellers do not like tourists that much.
