Diyanet is a machine that devours historical heritage in Turkey

Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) is turning into a massive corporation. Through some legal shenanigans, Hagia Sophia and Chora Church were appropriated by Diyanet and turned into mosques. Bomonti Beer Factory (was not active anymore) was recently given to Diyanet for a boarding house in the middle of İstanbul’s newly emerging nightlife.
