Germany calls for dialogue between Turkey, Greece

The German foreign minister on Aug. 25 called for direct dialogue between Turkey and Greece, ahead of his visit to the two countries.

 

Turkey’s natural gas find in the Black Sea has turned into a personal promotion of Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak, Future Party leader Ahmet Davutoğlu has said, as he criticized the minister over the current downfall of Turkish Lira.

During a speech on Aug. 23, Davutoğlu slammed the press conference held by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to announce the find on Aug. 21, saying that Albayrak was given too much credit.

 

Amid ongoing tension in the Mediterranean, Turkey has announced that its seismic research vessel, the MTA Oruç Reis, will continue its activities in the Eastern Mediterranean until August 27.

The natural gas discovery which was announced by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Aug. 21, is considered as a sign of his government’s preparations for a snap election by the opposition parties according to journalist Murat Yetkin.

 

The United States has criticized President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for hosting Hamas leaders in Istanbul, saying that it “strongly objects to” and is concerned about the Turkish government’s relationship with the group “at the highest levels.”
