Prof. Jenny White was one of the inspirations to continue this blog. Although she does not continue her Kamil Pasha blog much, now Kamil Pasha lives in her novels. I haven’t read her novels yet, they are on my reading list now. Her three novels take place in the 1880s of Istanbul. She talked about the similarities and contrasts of historical fiction writing and ethnographic writing and she had spent a good deal of time to have an accurate portrayal of the era.
Prof. White is one of the most knowledgeable anthropologists of Turkey. She is in town and she had a talk at the Swedish Institute.
Fantastic talk at #Istanbul’s Swedish Institute by author & academic Jenny White covering everything from lost night fishermen of #Bosphorus to publishers’ irritating preference for orientalist book covers. Her detective series starts w/The Sultan’s Seal. pic.twitter.com/gyftPl7Tmh
