European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker believes Turkey’s summoning of Berlin’s ambassador over a song on German TV lampooning President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is out of line with EU democratic values, his spokeswoman said today (30 March).
Following the airing of a satirical video that mocks Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan by German state broadcaster NDR, the German ambassador was summoned to the Turkish foreign ministry and ordered to delete the video. Commentators call on Germany and Europe to put the Turkish president in his place.
The Turkish government is not too pleased with a German television station’s song that poked fun at its leader.
