Comme le soulignent  des analystes turcs comme Nilüfer Göle ou Samim Akgönül , si Tayyip Erdogan  a été élu au premier tour à la présidentielle , sans grand éclat et grâce surtout à une abstention importante, l’autre vainqueur de cette élection est bien Selahattin Demirtas. qui  avec très peu de  moyens a réussi à  convaincu 10 % des électeurs. Un bond de  50% par rapport aux suffrages que récoltait son parti le HDP/BDP  aux élections  provinciales du 30 mars dernier.
