By chance I saw that there is a Facebook group supporting that the coming EU-USA Summit will not take place in Madrid but in Brussels.

This seems to be part of the power struggle between the institutions after the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty that foresees the weakening of the rotating Council presidency in favour of the permanent European Council President Herman van Rompuy.

According to the Spanish EU Presidency calendar, the next EU-US summit is to be held in Madrid on 24-25 May. However, according to Spanish daily ABC, Washington has discreetly conveyed the message that it would prefer Brussels to be the venue.

New layout of the European Commission website

Today, the European Commission has launched its new website layout as we just learned on Twitter.

At first sight, the front page looks well-arranged compared to how it was before, so it’ll ease the access of newcomers which is an asset. I never found the previous layout inviting or structured, so now you get a much quicker overview over what you can expect from the Commission website.

The World Economic Forum closed on Sunday in Davos. Politicians advocated financial market reforms, among other things. But industry representatives were unable to agree on a common strategy. Still – cooperation is the key to the future, the European news media says.

ECB sees no end to credit crunch
