Farewell to a major anthro blog: “anthro{dendum}”

I believe that the moment they changed their name from “Savage Minds” to “anthro{dendum}”, the decline started. Over-reliance on (political) correctness is a kind of (political) purism that never ends well. (I do not claim all contributors are like that; I actually like some of them very much). Life is rich, and anthropology is the right way to position oneself, but many anthropologists are quite narrow-minded- like the sociologists in Turkey. Otherwise, this blog or other possible sources would be great venues to understand our daily lives. Anyway, I myself lost eligibility years ago without recognizing it first, here and in more domestic circles (Check out the Cultural Anthropology Special issue on Gezi Park; you will not see me there). Well, this blog is 19 years old. Here and around, I rely on anthropological perspectives even though they are not officially recognized by some gatekeepers.

Dear readers,

We are sorry to say that after eighteen years, we are going to be shutting down this blog at the end of the year. We will write a longer farewell post later on, but we wanted to announce that we are closing this site and project down at the end of this year. A huge thanks to all our loyal readers who have stuck with us all these years, as well as new ones who may have only discovered the site recently. Our plan is to give all our bloggers a chance to post their farewells (or any other draft posts that they’ve been working on) over the course of December, with our final farewell post coming sometime after the New Year. Here’s to endings…and new beginnings!
