Turkey’s public television (TRT) ignores opposition…Some stats…. #TurkeyElections

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received Muharrem İnce, the main opposition Republican People Party’s (CHP) presidential candidate, for a visit late on May 9.

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has criticized an opposition Twitter campaign telling the government and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan “enough” (“tamam” in Turkish) ahead of the June 24 election, saying it is sponsored by foreign powers.

Speaking about the “Enough” campaign on social media, Deputy Prime Minister and Government Spokesperson Bozdağ has said, “Power does not come out of Twitter, but the ballot box. On June 24, Erdoğan will take over power again.”

President Erdoğan said, “In case our nations say ‘enough’, we will step aside’; 2 million “enough” tweets have been posted; the word has taken the first place worldwide on Twitter.

Following President Erdoğan saying, “In case one day our nation says ‘enough’, then we will step aside”, hashtag “Tamam” (Enough) has climbed to number in Turkey first and then the world on Twitter.

Turkey’s President Erdoğan has called snap parliamentary and presidential elections for the end of June. The new presidential system that gives the president comprehensive powers will come into force with the elections. Some commentators are apprehensive about Erdoğan winning another term in office. Others argue that his re-election could have a positive impact on foreign affairs.
