Turkey was shaken once again in the first hours of 2017, as one of Istanbul’s jet set nightclubs was raided by a gunman who killed 39 and wounded 65 people, four of whom are in a critical condition.
Until yesterday Turkey’s Diyanet was busy condemning New Year celebrations: 
Directorate of Religious Affairs Head Mehmet Görmez released a statement on Jan. 1 condemning the deadly attack at a nightclub in central Istanbul, which claimed 39 lives, describing the act as “savage and horrific.”
 
A gunman opened fire inside a packed Istanbul nightclub shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day, killing dozens and wounding dozens more, Turkish officials said.
