Here is the call for papers for the best annual food studies conference in North America with the most confusing name. This is the annual joint meeting of theAssociation for the Study of Food and Society, the Agriculture, Food, and Human Values Society, and, just to confuse matters further this year, the Canadian Association for Food Studies. That makes it the ASFS/AFHVS/CAFS Annual Meeting, which is really fun to try and repeat to friends and colleagues. And to make matters even more fun, SAFN will be a sponsor this year (as we were last year).

The 2015 annual conference of the Australian Anthropological Society (AAS) will be hosted by the Anthropology Programme at the University of Melbourne from 1-4 December. This year’s conference “Moral Horizons” will address moral pluralities both within anthropological practice and in the rapidly evolving world the discipline researches.
Melbourne University will be hosting the annual conference of the Australian Anthropological Society this year. The plenary speakers are Michael Lambek (University of Toronto), Nancy Scheper-Hughes (University of California, Berkeley), and Annelise Riles (Cornell Law School). The Distinguished Lecturewill be given by Associate Professor Martha Macintyre (The University of Melbourne) on Tuesday 1, December, from 5.30pm to 7.00pm at the Carillo Gantner Theatre, Sidney Myer Asia Centre, University of Melbourne, Parkville, Victoria, Australia. “One evening in Denver at the American Anthropological Association meeting a few days ago, I went out for a quick dinner at the Yard House. When I asked for the check, the waitress told me that someone had already paid it for me. I looked around and didn’t see anyone I knew. Puzzled, I asked her who had paid. She smiled and said it was Anonymous. So, thank you, Anonymous, for your generosity. On the way back to my hotel, I saw some homeless people camped out on the sidewalk, in freezing weather. I think that Anonymous’ kindness was meant for them. The man who received it, touched my hand, in silence. We are meant to pay things forward, every day.”

Chandler Zausner, one of AAA’s youngest members, submitted the following post about his experience at the AAA Annual Meeting and how he caught the anthropology bug.
My name is Chandler Zausner and I am a student at the High School of Art and Design in New York City. I recently had the opportunity to serve as the youngest presenter at Familiar/Strange, the 114th AAA Annual Meeting in Denver. The subject of my abstract was Cosplay as Tribal Ritual: Transmedial Archetypes as Avatar and Shaman. I could not have accomplished it without the inspiration and encouragement of the anthropologists that I met when I attended the previous year’s AAA convention in Washington, D.C.
