Hi Erkan, I’ve been reading your blog for a long time, and it’s one of my main sources for news from Turkey ? as well as Friday’s metal mayhem. I was a bit confused as to why you have a tattooed women at the top of this post though.
eheheheh that’s fantastic Frances. it was sort of a provocation: I wonder if anyone apart from me actually looks at the stuff. Good to know someone reads:) I collect interesting images and insert them to posts unrelatedly. Mostly, these are images I like and I want to share. Sometimes I insert more provocative stuff. Was that offensive by the way? if that’s the case, I can pull it off:)
I had to look back over a few posts to see if I’d missed a recurring theme, and remembered seeing the ‘naked women with guns’ (which I think is from Jan Fabre’s ‘Orgy of Tolerance’, though I’ve never seen a citation), but they were of a different context.
I read a lot of blogs and many of them are written by guys. Once in a while one of them will come up with a sexist or homo/trans-phobic remark that shows not only are they writing from a particular perspective (hetero male, and usually white), but that they uncritically assume their audience is made up of the same.
And often they can get quite irritated ? along with their commenters ? when it’s pointed out that there are e.g. women who also read their blog and their remark is questionable and causes part of their readership to feel unwelcome, and that it’s a pervasive problem on the internet, in academia, in STEM fields, in society in general.
Which is a (slightly) different thing from finding an image or remark offensive. (And also not to imply this is what is happening here) It’s more an issue of fatigue, like seeing naked or semi-naked women used endlessly for advertising things that have nothing to do with a naked or semi-naked woman.
I guess the question also here is in what way do you like and want to share this, or see this image as provocative, or to whom might it be seen as so and why? Is the basis for adding this or other images clear enough in the context of your blog to be legible by your readers?
sorry for the late reply:) hectic times. i place photos that i find interesting or i just like. they don’t need to be relevant like the one here. sometimes the level of irrelevancy create a sort of provocation. like the one here. i dunno what to say more here but let me prepare the new post with another irrelevant photo:)
