From civilian tutelage to judicial dictatorship?

by EKREM DUMANLI
Look at our situation; we are debating ?civilian tutelage? on the one hand and whether a ?party closure case? is going to be filed again on the other. What kind of civilian tutelage is this that it is constantly threatened with being closed down? What kind of ?civilian dictatorship? threat is this that it has a fictitious guillotine hanging over it?

Coup as ?eternal object of desire?

by YAVUZ BAYDAR
One has to be grateful for the ?fact? that ?press freedom is in serious danger? in Turkey. Thanks to this, newspapers such as Taraf are able to reveal one dark episode of country?s recent past after another. (One can imagine that if freedom of the press were more ?restricted,? we would be exposed to worse shock treatment of the previously unknown.)

  1. I don’t understand why people who are against military coups cannot, at the same time, be worried about the signs of creeping autocratic civilian rule? This is democratic vigilance, pure and simple. Your comments about Nuray Mert are vicious and totally unfair.

I don’t think people who are trying to make sense of what is going on in Turkey through your selections are getting a fair and balanced picture.

I know that you can do better. You should try.
