Dammit, poverty!

I have been trying to buy a laptop for two days. It was a good deal. Campaign for a particular bank's particular credit card. Despite all tries of credit transfers and similar attempts i could not manage to have enough credit limit to buy that Sony Vaio model. Dammit, i don't know what I did exactly but my credit limit for that card is now worse. I wish i could have more financial wisdom. That really depresses me now...

In the mean time, Jon seems have created:

[update in] Erkan now has a car!

hakanvearaba.jpg

My parents decided to buy me a car. You see my black Hyundai Getz with my first navigator, Hakan. I have been driving for three days and so far no casualties.

Driving has always been one of the alien human practices for me. Like swimming or riding a bike i have never thought of driving and apart from rare occasions in which I showed my parents that i could indeed drive, i have never driven.

Well times change. I move to a new campus which is far away from where I live. For the last six years, I have lived within the walking distance to the campus.  But of course i was still planning public transportation and inter-campus shuttle sistem at Bilgi but my parents insisted and i said why not this time. Anyway, let me go for a ride:p

-update- in the very beginning of my ride, i crashed slightly a parked car, causing some scratches. Dad thinks this happened because i wanted to give way to a car though it was my way to go, i don't know how exactly he imagined this- he is out of town, lecturing happened thru phone- but the fact is that i attempted to salute a friend whom I haven't seen for ages and when I somehow lost control:p- Anyway, everything is under control. i am back at my place and planning to have a very productive night-

Day 2; morning

Levent will come to meet me soon and I don't know if i will have steady net connection from now on. There are of course internet cafes at least. In the mean time, I started transcribing! I transcribed one interview using a software called Express Scribe. It is very simple and free and my transcription does not need complicated work. I will incorporate transcribed work into the draft. So far I have an outlline of 2 chapters, nearly 12 pages and 8000 words in my draft...

"Nokia’s Killer New-Media Gadget

Dan Gillmor in Nokia’s Killer New-Media Gadget says:

Nokia N95I’ve been playing with Nokia’s latest mobile device — the N95 — and consider it a breakthrough in digital media.

Oh, it’s a phone, naturally. But it’s so much more, including WiFi, GPS, MP3 recording and playback, a 5-megapixel digital camera and MPEG 4, 30-frames-per-second video recording and playback, Web browsing, email and, of course, text. There’s more, but you get the idea.

The journalistic potential for the N95 is simply enormous....

Erkan wants presents from his parents

Apple MacBook MB063LL/A 13.3"

 Nokia N95

Erkan thinks it is time to upgrade his hi-tech gearing. Nokia's N95 is a convergence of camera (5mpx), ipod and third generation cell phone while there is no need to praise Macbook. Well, it is time to move from PC but it will still take time to upgrade. my current financial situation is terrible. let me attempt to exploit my parents though i know there is little chance:)

"Progress on the assemblage paper....

January 13, 2005

My day started up early and productive. I had an invigilation task. I had mails to send, i had announcements to do, i had this tax return file to return to human resources department etc. Well, I have done some of them and hoping to finish most of what I planned by this evening. Then i will go and get my new computer and Suleyman will help me to set up the whole thing. But Fırat has just sent me a mail and asked me to help him because there are too many news to handle. Man, I have to find an easy way to have access to the media archive. I did not start to use this effectively but i am spending too much time and effort to have access already. I am gonna get in touch with Tribeca officials through a professor, Ms Şaylan in order to get free access without spending this much labor force. Meanwhile, to be bothered about not having a partner is one thing and to be bothered about falling in love with someone who has already a boyfriend is another thing. I manage to bother myself in one way or another. I thought I had overcome my last case, but after seeing her today around, i felt not good at all. Damn it, this will take a long time to recover:(
