EU 'crisis' summit: Parliament's reactions

A large majority of parliamentarians strongly backed the conclusion of last week's EU summit to move on with the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty despite the Irish 'no', hoping for the process to be finished in time for the next European elections in June 2009. But some criticised EU leaders for a lack of vision on how to move Europe forward.

National parliaments seek to bridge EU democratic gap

Speakers of national parliaments from across the 27-member bloc have echoed an EU summit decision last week to carry on with the Lisbon Treaty ratification process and give the chance to all countries to express their views. EurActiv spoke to Bernard Accoyer, the president of the French 'Assemblée Nationale'.

Uffe Ellemann-Jensen: Ireland Must Go

Copenhagen – Ireland should do the rest of Europe a favor and withdraw from the European Union.  That seems to be the only tenable solution to the situation created by the Irish “No” to the Lisbon Treaty. The Irish have created a problem for themselves. They should not let it be a problem for others.

Europe’s calamity by JOSCHKA FISCHER

It has happened. After France and the Netherlands rejected the European Constitutional Treaty, Ireland's "No" vote is the second and probably decisive blow against a united and strong Europe.

They can't agree on a constitution; they can't even agree on a watered down version of one. This time even the Turkish membership is not an excuse. The tower of Babel called the EU has reached its ultimate potential.

Turkey was never an excuse.
The tower of bavel mythe exist only in Turkish dreams...))
THe EU is in Progress, thats all, or is the Turkish government doing so much better rulling over several tiny minorities?

The EU is in progress? Unfortunately, so is the global warming. And the latter is progressing at such an exponential rate that your tiny country Netherlands will be under water soon, dear Hans. But then again, nobody said that the EU is coherent enough to act stratigically either. They are blinded by selfishness, racism and religious bias. Just take a look at Sarkozy, Merkel, Plassnik and company: nothing will come out of these dinosaurs for the good of the world.
