The failure of Macedonia to secure an invitation to join NATO at the Alliance's summit despite the accession of its neighbours could have a negative impact on its bid to join the EU, according to a number of politicians and analysts. The NATO summit in Bucharest is less than a week away. Yet Macedonia’s bid to join the trans-Atlantic alliance hangs in the balance. Strangely, the problem is the name of my country, which Greece doesn’t recognize, and not our record on civil and military reforms, which Macedonia has been diligently pursuing.NATO summit hijacked by a dispute over a name
Commenting on the conclusions of the NATO summit in Bucharest, Graham Watson (Leader of the Liberals and Democrats in the European Parliament) said:For Macedonia, NATO Summit a Disappointment
BUCHAREST, Romania, April 4 -- What's in a name? A rose by any other name may smell as sweet, but not to the Greeks.OTAN/UE: la courageuse stratégie de Sarkozy

Heads of government and state at the NATO summit in Bucharest have agreed to allow Croatia and Albania to join the military alliance. Macedonia's hopes of becoming the third Balkan state to join were dashed as a result of Greece's opposition. For Ukraine and Georgia, membership in the alliance has receded into the distant future.
NATO, Iraq, Russia, and Wrong Directions
So the headlines today read that "81 percent" of Americans think the country is on "the wrong track."Perhaps the lack of real debate and original thinking on Iraq has contributed.
Labour’s 2009 EP candidates
Thanks to LME for posting up the list of all of Labour’s candidates for the 2009 European Parliament elections - 69 candidates in all. Below you can find the full list. Apart from the retirement of Glenys Kinnock and Gary Titley all the other MEPs are sitting pretty at the top of the lists. With a small drop in the total number of MEPs I fear there will be no new faces at all, confirming my previous concern.
