2007: The Year of Social Networking
An article at PC World does a great job of summarizing the major developments in social networking space in 2007 and ponders over the prospects and uncertainties for 2008.
One insightful point mentioned in the article is how innovation at start-ups startles tech giants. Google, the great Web firm that one-upped Yahoo in claiming the search crown and hailed as the poster child of innovation was beaten at the social networking front. All the major internet firms such as Yahoo, Google and MS were done in by FaceBook which sort of perfected the concept of applications around social networks....

5 great acquisition targets for 2008
After last year's acquisition post, I thought it would be interesting to look at 5 great acquisition targets for 1st quarter 2008. Big increase in use of video-sharing sites
The Pew Internet & American Life Project has just released findingsshowing that 48% of internet users have been to video-sharing sites such
as YouTube and the daily traffic to such sites on a typical day has
doubled in the past year.
The basic findings in a national phone survey that ended in December
show:
48% of internet users said they had ever visited a video-sharing site
such as YouTube. A year ago, in December 2006, 33% of internet users
said they had ever visited such sites. That represents growth of more
than 45% year-to-year.
15% of respondents said they had used a video-sharing site "yesterday" -
the day before they were contacted for our survey. A year ago, 8% had
visited such a site "yesterday." Thus, on an average day, the number of
users of video sites nearly doubled from the end of 2006 to the end of
2007.

As the name implies, the report details what kind of technical progress developing countries are making—how many people have computers, access to the Internet, that kind of thing. The report is quite long, so I'm going to focus on a few key points:.......
