Deniz Baykal (who made use of a discourse of reactionaryism claiming that secularism is under threat in Turkey) is no longer the head of the CHP. There is Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu at the helm today. Reactionaryism was gone with Baykal.

Who is this Mehmet Haberal? Where does he derive his power from?

by BÜLENT KENEŞ
I first heard his name in 1989 from one of my roommates, who was from Rize, as we were staying in the dormitory of Boğaziçi University. ?This guy is the real state,? said my roommate, Nevzat K., who was studying physics, referring to a news story about Mehmet Haberal, and I was really perplexed.

We need to agree on some issues for a modern state of law. There is no hierarchical order among the bureaucratic entities that provide public services. All of the bureaucracy, including the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), is subject to the same rules.

Another phase has started with the litigation of the project to ?lay the groundwork for an eventual military takeover? — which has been given the generic name ?Ergenekon.?

A guide to Turkish media for the US ambassador

by ERGUN BABAHAN
The US ambassador to Turkey, Francis Joseph Ricciardone, caused a mini-crisis upon arriving in Turkey. His comments did not actually call for such a reaction. Ambassador Ricciardone said he was trying to understand what is happening in Turkey after a raid on odatv.com?s office.

Is freedom of the press really in danger in Odatv case?

by FATMA DİŞLİ ZIBAK
Anti-government circles and supporters of Ergenekon, a clandestine crime network which has alleged links within the state and is suspected of plotting to topple the government, are interpreting the arrest of Soner Yalçın, who runs the controversial odatv.com news portal, and two employees as a blow to freedom of the press.

Can pro-coup voters make a party win the election?

by MÜMTAZER TÜRKÖNE
The recent developments concerning the Sledgehammer (Balyoz) case have the potential to make an impact on the elections to be held in June. The legal process that is making progress with a series of arrests is a separate matter. As the political spectrum and the political competition among parties are shaped according to these debates, this case will certainly influence the election results.

Oxford Analytica versus Turkish democracy

by İHSAN YILMAZ
Last week the US ambassador to Turkey created havoc when he directly commented on a legal case and declared that he was confused about freedom of the press in Turkey. The case in point concerns the infamous Ergenekon terrorist organization and journalist Soner Yalçın, who has been charged for being a member of the organization.

Soner Yalçın’s rights

An unfortunate statement

by CHARLOTTE MCPHERSON
Republican People?s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has come under fire for wanting to become a member of Ergenekon, a clandestine criminal network which has alleged links within the state. Many analysts say yet another electoral defeat is very likely for the CHP in June because the public never supports defenders of shadowy organizations and coups.

by BÜLENT KENEŞ
It seems that pro-Ergenekon/Sledgehammer media organizations and circles will never stop disseminating lies, distortions, disinformation and black propaganda in order to discredit the Ergenekon and Sledgehammer (Balyoz) cases which are critically important for the future of Turkey, a country with a recent past rife with military interventions and coups. Sometimes, they even go to such extremes and they put themselves such miserable situations that one is urged to say, ?No, this is really too much.?
