Av Mevsimi (Saison de chasse), le dernier film de Yavuz Turul, est actuellement à l?affiche dans les salles de Turquie. En France le cinéma l?Odyssée à Strasbourg l?a programmé à l?occasion de la quinzaine du cinéma turc, en décembre dernier . La ville et son cinéma l?Odyssée sont un peu trop loin de chez moi pour que j?aie pu y assister. Pourtant j?aurais aimé, pour la qualité de sa programmation et aussi pour manifester ma solidarité à Faruk Günaltay, le directeur de ce cinéma, qui a été la cible de cinglés nostalgiques du III Reich au début de l?automne, peu après l?ouverture de la chasse. Son véhicule a été incendié devant sa maison et la porte de sa maison maculée de croix gammées. J?ignore si depuis ces fous furieux ont été retrouvés.

This was the recurring theme whenever I talked to somebody involved in the movie. A lot more money was being plugged into the film; some US$10 million. A small Turkish town in the southeast was turned into the West Bank. Alemdar and crew were taking on an international issue, not their standard enemies that would be recognizable only to a Turkish audience. The producers were taking this one seriously, knowing that it would get international play once it came out to theatres on 28 January.

It?s been two decades since Richard Linklater?s Slacker shook up American independent film and helped define a generation. This week, on the eve of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, journalist Mark Savlov sat down with Linklater and writer John Pierson (Spike, Mike, Slackers & Dykes) for an in-depth conversation for the Austin Chronicle about the groundbreaking movie and its tough-to-pin-down legacy. The discussion brings into sharp focus the changes that have come about, in both Austin and the indie film world, since 1991: The city then so evocatively dramatized as a regional haven for aimless bohemians with a lot to say is now a national artistic hub, home to the ever expanding South by Southwest Festival.
